Jelqing is the single-most important exercise to do for overall penile health and size. Read on!
Jelqing is great because it doesn't cost any money.
However, it costs time and effort, and some focused attention.
Jelqing requires a private location. Most guys typically jelq in their bedroom or if they live alone, pretty much anywhere in their house/apartment.
This is in contrast to discrete and hidden penis extender traction devices that can be used during the day, anywhere.
Most guys will be happy to know that you can make significant gains, particularly in girth, just from jelqing. Jelqing is a form of penis stretching that causes micro tears in the penis tissue and promotes strong blood flow in the penis.
One can expect to gain about a small 0.2 inch in length and a couple inches in girth from jelqing in about 4 to 6 months, with one 10-20 minute jelqing session each day.
What is Jelqing?
Jelqing is a shaft-stroking penis stretching exercise that causes micro tears in the penis tissue.
Jelqing is a basic exercise, which uses a firm, stroking motion to force nutrient-rich blood into the penis, while also stretching it, to increase size. This is a simple, but effective, four-step exercise, performed while the penis is at a 50-75% erection level (higher erection levels can be used by more advanced/experienced exercisers).
According to penis enlargement report by Cornell University:
Other notable universities, like University of California, Santa Barbara, have also reported on jelqing.
Why do Jelqing?
Quite a few reasons:
- It promotes delivery of nutrient-rich blood to all of your penile tissues, which is directly responsible to hyperplasia (increasing number of cells in your penile tissue).
- It primarily targets girth gains (not length). Women prefer girth for pleasure over length.
- However, some length gains can be observed due to the pulling-nature of the jelqing technique.
- It provides stronger, fuller, healthier erections.
- It's pretty easy to do, you can split some of your attention on something else that's light, e.g. You can watch TV while your hands do the jelqing.
The Four-Steps to Do One Jelq Rep
- Lubricate your penis with olive oil, coconut oil, or water-based lubricants.
- Form an OK-grip with your index finger and thumb, around the base of your penis.
- With a light pressure, slowly slide your grip up the shaft of the penis. Take about 3 seconds to start from the base of your penis and finish at the base of the glands.
- Stop just before the glans.
- Repeat and point your penis at different angles and start your OK-grip at different angles. Also use your other hand to get different angles that are hard to do with the other hand.
The Essential Steps to Do a Jelqing Rep
One jelq rep can also be summarized in these two photos below:
Jelqing Variations and Considerations
Using a Lubricant with Jelqing
You should use a lubricant when doing jelqing. Dry jelqing, which is jelqing without a lubricant is highly not recommended.
This is because it is really harsh on the skin and you don't get an even stroke and blood flow push to all the tissues in your penis when doing dry jelqing.
Dry-jelqing also risks developing rashes on the skin of your penis which are painful and annoying
Another reason to use a lubricant is because it allows your surface shaft skin to not get in the way.
See what happens when you don't use a lubricant is that when you squeeze with your OK-grip, you essentially grip onto the skin there, and end up just pulling it upwards as you move your fingers up your shaft.
Not only is this uncomfortable, but it provides an uneven stroke and can affect how consistently the blood is flowing through your penis during the rep.
Add in the use of the jelqing lubricant and you'll get a nice even stroke from start to finish - no pulling of skin and every part of the shaft is hit evenly.
Some lubricants that you can use include olive oil or coconut oil. This allows your fingers to slide up and down the shaft very easily without being too rough on your shaft skin. Other water based lubricants work just as well. Some of these lubricants are also used as sex lubricant products.
Olive oil is the most popular lubricant to use because it's so accessible, especially if you have experience cooking.
However, don't be misled into just using an other cooking oil like Canola oil. Olive oil has tons of superior properties. For instance it's good for the skin and when consumed (like in cooking) it's good for improving heart health.
Thus, it would be worth it to just have some olive oil around the house for these various utility purposes - like AA batteries.
While we don't have a specific recommendation for which olive oil to use, you can't go wrong with the selection at your local supermarket.
Never use soap as a jelqing lubricant. This is because if the soap gets inside your urethra opening then it will be very painful. Additionally, soap does not have the full lubricating properties that promotes good jelqing strokes.
Here is a good recommendation for coconut oil based on quality, affordability and our team's personal experience.
Erection Levels and Jelqing
Generally, you want to maintain an erection level between 50% and 80% when you're actually doing jelqing. Or experienced jelqers can do jelqing while maintaining a 80 to 90% erection level. However, if there is any pain you should either stop jelqing or rest a while to lower your erection level.
You'll find that jelqing with a high erection level will is actually more painful because you're adding more pressure on your penis, when the blood is already fully pumped into your penis.
For most guys, as they proceed with their jelqing session, they will naturally get a harder and harder erection.
That's why maintaining a certain erection level is slightly challenging and also requires you pay attention to your body. That's why you can't completely multitask when doing jelqing.
Don't jelq with a 100% full erection -- it's not necessary.
The reason for not jelqing with a 100% full erection is because when you don't have a full erection, your tissues on the surface of your penis are still flexible and can be trained more effectively. This directly contributes to girth gains.
Because it is a manual penis stretching exercise, you should start off slow and then work up the intensity.
You want to find a nice balance between strength, consistency, diameter, and stroke length.
Because jelqing is a physical exercise just like weight lifting, you want to always be challenging yourself. You don't want to be stroking it too lightly or too harshly.
One important factor here is the diameter of your ok - grip. If it is too small you may risk jelqing too hard and injuring yourself. Therefore, you need to find the balance between going to lightly and finding a good strain that really allows you to train on your penis and induce those micro tears all without injuring yourself.
You also want to make sure that your stroke is going all the way from the base of your penis to the base of your glans. This is so you can ensure full consistency with your exercise and maximize results.
Angles and Jelqing
Jelqing angle is fairly important.
By a angle, we mean the direction you are stroking your penis away from your body.
There are two common angles that people will stroke towards. Stroking upward targets the tissue and ligaments underneath your penis. Stroking downward targets those tissues and ligaments on the top of your penis.
Stroking downward particularly contributes to length because it is this part of the penis that is the shortest and is the bottleneck in flaccid and erect length gains.
Therefore, although the downward jelq angle is slightly harder to hit, we highly recommend you overcompensate by doing more downward reps than upward. So if you do 100 reps, aim to do at least half (50-60 reps) jelqing with a downward stroke.
Number of strokes per session each day
Most men who do jelqing will typically do one session a day.
Number of Jelqing Sessions Per Week: Busy individuals may do jelqing about 3 to 4 times a week, although if you have the time, we highly recommend you do 1 jelqing session a day to maximize results.
Number of Strokes per Session: For each jelqing session the number of strokes you do matters. Thus, you don't want to undercut the number of strokes to overdo it either. Beginners should start off by doing about 100 to 200 strokes per session.
Intermediate and Advanced jelqers can increase their stroke count to 500 to 700 strokes per session.
Sitting vs standing while Jelqing
Ultimately, you want to be in the most comfortable position while jelqing.
This means you are either sitting or standing based on whichever you prefer. There is no advantage or disadvantage to standing vs. sitting.
Some people find that they can get a better blood flow to their penis if they are standing. However, you may also want to consider which position and posture allows you to maintain the desired erection level.
Some people prefer to watch TV or do some other sedentary activity that doesn't require that much attention, so they'll sit down. Again this is perfectly fine.
Everybody is different so after a few sessions, you should already have an idea as to what posture and body position you prefer.
Why Jelqing Works
Jelqing works because it uses the positive pressure from your OK-grip combined with the stroking motion to pump blood into your Corpora cavernosa in the shaft of your penis.
Think of it like what happens when you squeeze a semi-inflated balloon.
If you squeeze one side, then all the air will be pushed into the other side and the balloon will expand outward.
Now take this analogy and apply it to what happens when you do the same thing to your penis.
What happens is that instead of air causing the balloon surface to expand outward, it's blood pushing outwards on your penile tissues!
Now when you constantly apply this type of outward, pumping force for a constant period of time (over many jelqing sessions and many reps), the result is that the body adapts to these constant changes by expanding outward naturally.
This is also known as girth gains.
The Single Biggest Jelqing Mistake That We Guarantee You're Going to Do
While jelqing is actually a really easy to get the hang of, there is a common, big mistake that all guys will make.
This mistake will cost you your girth gains results, and instead result in lots of frustration due to wasted time not gaining.
This mistake is none other than doing each jelqing rep for the full 5 seconds.
Why is this such a big mistake?
Well, consider what happens when you only take 1 to 2 seconds to do each rep.
This means that you're not really having the blood push outwards on your penile tissue for that long.
This doesn't give your penile tissues a chance to adapt and respond because it's as if the changes are temporary and negligible.
Think of this like when you're in the gym and you don't do a full-range of motion for the reps for whatever exercise you're doing.
For example, if it's a squat rep, you're not going as low as possible. Or if it's a shoulder press rep, you're not bringing the weights down as low as possible.
These are half-assed reps.
It's the exact same thing with jelqing - if you only take 1-2 seconds to do each stroke, then you're doing half-ass jelq reps.
It's easy to start getting into the bad habit of doing quick jelq reps (bad) because you get impatient or you're not paying it much attention because say you're watching TV.
Therefore, you have to form good habits when you're first starting out. We highly suggest going as far as timing each rep so that you can actually feel with your fingers and penis shaft roughly where and when your fingers should be when they're moving up the shaft.
Remember, if you don't correct this mistake now, you'll just be wasting lots of time in the future.
If you're confused why you need to do this, just go back to the balloon analogy above - you need to hold the penis in the "expanded" state as long as possible to train your tissues to adapt to it.
It is by this consistent training that provides you with girth gains.
What to Expect When Jelqing
Remember, jelqing is a great blood flow exercise to do after manual stretching exercises.
When you start your jelqing session, you will most likely be flaccid. The goal is to get your erection level up to 50% to start.
The guys with minor to no erectile dysfunction can get their semi-erection after some jelqing strokes. The lubricant you use will also stimulate and help your boner.
As you're counting your reps or keeping time, you'll notice that your penis will be red - this is due to a combination of all the blood pushed into the penis combined with the fact that you're rubbing against your penis skin.
All in all, this is good because you're training your penis.
You may notice that your girth will temporarily increase while jelqing. The constant jelqing training and sessions will add up to contribute to a fuller, wider penis (girth gains).
Remember to jelq for the full length of your penis. Don't get lazy and cut corners. You want to push blood throughout the whole length of your penis to train all of it and maximize your gains.

When your done with your jelqing session, your penis will be in quite an enlarged state.
If you want you can masturbate, but if you do, make sure you continue to use lubricant and don't squeeze hard on your penis. Squeezing kills sensitivity and you don't really want to compress your penis, but rather let it adapt to its expanded, larger state.
Also, loose underwear is preferred after a jelqing session. Try to let it all hang loose.
Jelqing Devices can help Target all Angles
Jelqing devices don't jelq your penis automatically, rather they provide more angles that you can hit your penis with.
This is because some may find it hard to stroke upward with the simple OK-grip. This jelqing device solves that problem.
Notice how the upward stroke is much easier to hit.
This device can also give more leverage. The amount of tension you squeeze the handles with will apply more pressure to your penis than if you were to just use the OK-grip.
This can save you some energy and effort if you find normal jelqing to be tiring. This device can make it less troublesome.
This device can also give you more consistency with the jelq tension if you have a hard timing keeping a constant diameter with your OK-grip.
You still need to use a lubricant with this device as well. Don't dry-jelq even if you're using this tool.
Jelqing Results to Expect
The Pros and Cons of Jelqing
Jelqing is essentially free.
This is a huge advantage, because literally every man can start penis enlargement at no upfront monetary cost to them, whatsoever.
This low-barrier to entry means that anyone can get it if they work at it and there isn't a special "club" that only certain men have access to, like stock market insider secrets.
Jelqing primarily targets girth.
Majority of women prefer girth as it creates the physical pressure that stimulates their vaginal walls.
So if you need girth, do jelqing - it's that simple.
It requires about 15 minutes of effort every day.
So if you're one who can't keep to a solid gym-workout routine, or even simpler tasks like brushing your teeth every day, you're probably going to find it hard to stay disciplined with jelqing.
Unfortunately, results don't just come in one or two sessions - the major results come as a result of many many sessions, with all the small gains adding up.
Your ability to multitask is severely limited.
For example, you can watch TV or listen to music - pretty much anything that doesn't require your hands.
That's why it's limited multitasking.
However, listening to music or watching TV may help the session to feel like it passes by quicker, which is a plus.
But you can't operate a computer or do anything similar because you need the use of your hands for the exercise.
There are other penis enlargement methods that do not require your hands, however.
It requires 100% privacy.
Kind of another big point.
You can only do jelqing in the privacy of your bedroom (or house if you live alone).
Not ideal if you're in college with roommates. Bathroom stall might work - but it really depends on your logistics.
That's because you're physically have your pants off and you're stroking your penis - super exposed.
I bring this point up, because there are penis enlargement methods that allow you to stealthily do them in the middle of public - all without anyone noticing one bit.
It requires some clean-up.
This is a big one for guys who tend to be lazy.
Because you're using a water-based lubricant, you're going to have to wash it off when you're done. Unless you don't mind your crotch being sticky afterward.
I personally cannot stand the stickiness, so I have to wash my crotch after every jelqing session.
Again, for some this may not be a problem, but it's still something to consider, nonetheless.
Jelqing is one of the "bread-and-butter" exercises for penis enlargement.
Not only that, but it is probably the easiest exercise to get started with, and one that is highly recommended for beginners who have never done any penis enlargement before.
Jelqing primaily targets girth, but can be used to achieve some length gains due to the naturally pulling motion of the exercise.
However there are much better options for length gains.
Regardless, spending about 15-20 minutes a day jelqing not only feels good, but the confidence you get from doing it will also rise - a crucial element that is commonly overlooked when it comes to having sex.
Have you tried it? What do you think about jelqing?
